We can't sign into your account
This problem can often be fixed by signing out of our account and then signing back in. If you don't sign out now, any files you create or changes you make will be lost.
Let me guess: the problem wasn't fixed by signing out and signing back in? That's because the real issue here is that the user's local profile directory was moved or deleted. In my case, I renamed a user's profile directory as a troubleshooting step to determine a corrupt profile was causing the errors. Turns out the issue was a corrupt profile, but you can't just delete or rename a profile folder anymore.
If a profile directory (in
C:Users) is renamed or deleted, you also have to delete the matching user profile from the registry.
WARNING: Modifying the registry can really mess up your computer.
To delete the profile from the registry, open
regedit by clicking the Windows icon and searching "regedit". Navigate the registry tree to the following:
Find the problem profile by looking at
ProfileImagePath. Once you find it, delete the profile (eg.
Restart and login. A new user profile should be created for the user and the signin error should be resolved!
